SmartExam Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Filed under: News, Latest Technology - Mel @ 4:41 am

An MRI, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging, utilizes the physical properties of magnetic fields, radio waves and computers to generate images of the tissues within the body. MRI signals from the body are generated using a safe magnetic field in combination with radio waves of a specific frequency.

Each MRI examination will typically last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on area of the body to be imaged. Our Philips Achieva technology provides high performance imaging in the most patient-friendly scanning environment. Designed with both you and your physician in mind, the Philips Achieva system enhances your comfort without compromising image quality and clinical performance.

What makes Columbus Community Hospital’s MRI different than most other MRI experiences is the compact design. This allows you to feel much more comfortable and less confined compared to traditional MRI machines. Our MRI allows for optimum airflow and lighted gantry which helps lessen the claustrophobic feelings common with traditional MRI machines.

The new technology includes "SmartExam" which recognizes anatomy in the brain and remembers slice positioning for MRI exams. This provides consistency of the clinical examination for every patient.

The level of detail provided by our MRI assists radiologists and physicians in earlier diagnosis of a variety of medical conditions including:

  • Brain and nervous system disorders
  • Bone and joint injuries and disorders
  • Cancer and organ disease
  • Back (spine) pain
